For the readers who are not familiar with you, how would you introduce yourself?
Hello, I’m Remko Hoekstra, a Dutch tattoo artist and owner of tattoo studio Hook’s Ink in Zoetermeer (the Netherlands).

Where did your fascination for tattoos come from?
My fascination for tattoos started on an early age. I always liked street art and the work of LA Graffiti Masters. I got a book about Los Angeles art and in that book I saw legendary tattoo artists like Mr Cartoon and Jack Rudy (rest in peace). I was fortunate to follow some seminars from them in a later era.

How and when did you start tattooing?
After a few years of selling needles and other supplies for tattoo studios, one of my dear friends asked me if I wanted to come learn to tattoo in his studio in Amsterdam. I immediately took vacation from my day job and started. From day one, I was in love with tattooing. After tattooing a few friends a lot of others followed, it took a flight so fast that I opened a small studio in my hometown as well. I started to book seminars with big names in the industry to learn and grow in my work. I still do it every now and then. Funny part, I work with some of the legendary people where I took seminars from.

How would you describe the tattoo scene in the Netherlands these days?
The tattoo scene has grown after COVID-19. A lot of diversity in styles and people. There are several studios with guest artists only and not tattoo artist owned. Also, we see more and more private studios nowadays.
