For the readers who are not familiar with you, how would you introduce yourself?
My name is Lewis, and I am originally from Murcia, Spain. I currently work at Ganga Tattoo LA in Los Angeles. I specialize in highly detailed and fine-line portrait tattoos of animals and pets. My work focuses on capturing deep emotion and lifelike realism in every piece I create.

Where did your fascination for tattoos come from?
I’ve always had a strong desire to leave a lasting mark in the world. Tattooing allows me to do just that—each piece becomes a permanent memory on someone’s skin. Creating pet portraits is especially meaningful because it helps my clients honor and remember their beloved companions forever. That emotional impact is what truly fascinates me about tattooing.

At what point in your life did you become a professional tattoo artist?
I became a professional tattoo artist in 2019, after many years of practicing, learning, and refining my technique. I spent a long time exploring different styles until I found the one that truly fulfilled me. I’m extremely self-demanding, and it was important for me to feel both comfortable and proud of the work I was producing.

How would you define your current tattoo style and how did you end up focusing on it?
My tattoo style is animal realism and micro-realism. I use a very fine line technique to achieve the highest level of detail, especially in the fur of the animals. This approach allows me to create highly defined, lifelike portraits that feel personal and emotionally powerful. My passion for animals and perfectionism naturally led me to specialize in this niche.

What’s the most challenging aspect of being a tattoo artist in 2025?
The most challenging part of being a tattoo artist in 2025 is the constant need for growth. I push myself every day to improve my craft, reach a wider audience, and connect with more clients who appreciate my work and want to commemorate their pets through tattoos. Maintaining that high standard consistently is both the biggest challenge and the greatest motivation.

What’s a tattoo project that challenged your skills the most?
One of the most challenging experiences was working on large-scale collaborative pieces under anesthesia in operating rooms. These “no-pain” projects require several hours of intense, uninterrupted work alongside other artists. Completing such a massive and detailed piece in an 8-hour session is physically and creatively demanding, making it one of the most intense but rewarding challenges I’ve faced.

What’s your experience at tattoo conventions so far?
My experience at tattoo conventions especially those organized by Villain Arts has been nothing short of amazing. I truly enjoy attending these events to connect with incredibly talented artists, share ideas, and participate as a judge. Being surrounded by creativity and passion in such a dynamic environment is always inspiring.

Have you ever participated in any tattoo contest?
Yes, I’ve had the honor of serving as a judge at several major tattoo conventions, including those held in San Diego, Orlando, Houston, Denver, and Long Beach. It’s a true privilege to evaluate the outstanding work of fellow artists and contribute to such respected events.

What’s your primary reason to attend a tattoo convention?
The main reason I attend tattoo conventions is to expand my visibility within the tattoo industry and to allow the public to see my work in person. Many people rarely get the opportunity to observe a tattoo being created live, so conventions offer a unique space to connect directly with an audience and showcase the artistic process.

What’s your favorite tattoo convention so far? And why?
My favorite convention is the Golden State Tattoo Expo in California. It’s close to home, which makes it convenient, but more importantly, it’s one of the biggest and most respected conventions in the country. Every year, it brings together an extraordinary lineup of artists from around the world, and the atmosphere is always incredible.

What advice would you give to first-time artists attending or working at a convention?
My best advice to first-time convention artists is to stay calm and work at your own pace. There’s usually plenty of time to complete your piece properly, so avoid rushing. Focus on quality and enjoy the experience—conventions are not just about the competition, but also about learning, growing, and building lasting connections in the tattoo community.

What advice would you offer to someone considering a career as a tattoo artist?
My advice is to practice every single day without exception. Focus on synthetic skin and try different styles until you discover the one that truly fulfills you where you feel most comfortable and see fast improvement. If you’re not seeing consistent progress, it may be time to explore other styles until you find the one that naturally suits your talent. The tattoo industry is highly competitive today, and success requires both skill and the ability to evolve quickly.

Who are the people you admire the most within the tattoo community?
There are many artists I deeply admire in today’s tattoo scene. I’m especially inspired by my colleagues and mentors, including Ganga, Fede Almanzor, Jose Contreras, Dani Luz, Sare, and Gonzalez, among others. Their work ethic, creativity, and unique styles continue to influence and motivate me every day.

What’s your biggest accomplishment as a tattoo artist?
My greatest accomplishment so far is being able to continue working at Ganga Tattoo in Los Angeles and having the opportunity to participate in “no-pain” anesthesia sessions with some of the most recognized celebrities in the world. Being part of these high-level experiences is something I’m extremely proud of.
