For the readers who are not familiar with you, how would you introduce yourself?
My name is Jacopo, I’m a tattoo artist from Rimini, Italy, and I work at Rivaink Tattoo Shop. I started getting into the world of tattooing by believing in myself every single day and constantly setting new goals.
Where did your fascination for tattoos come from?
My passion for tattooing comes from oil painting, I’ve always wanted to transfer art from the canvas to the body.
At what point in your life did you become a professional tattoo artist?
I became a professional tattoo artist at the age of 23, when I started working in a tattoo studio.
Please walk us through your process when you start a new tattoo for your customers.
When I have a new client, I always try to create a unique project for them. First, I design the concept on my iPad, and then I adapt it to their body to ensure it flows naturally.
What’s the most challenging aspect of being a tattoo artist in 2025?
The most challenging aspect of being a tattoo artist in 2025 is that there are so many artists out there, and the competition is incredibly high.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a tattoo artist?
The most rewarding aspect of being a tattoo artist is seeing a project that was born in your mind come to life on someone’s body, something the client will carry forever, remembering the moment, the sessions, and sometimes even the pain shared with the artist to complete the piece.
What’s your experience at tattoo conventions so far?
I started attending tattoo conventions five years ago, and it’s been a great way to grow and challenge myself.
Did you ever participate in any tattoo contests?”
Yes, whenever I go to conventions I always take part in contests, especially for realism or “Best in Show”, and I’ve even won!
What’s your primary reason to attend a tattoo convention?
It’s about measuring myself against international-level artists, meeting new people, and being inspired by different styles and techniques.
How do you think tattoo conventions could improve for the artists and the public?
Some conventions could improve their organization, especially the contest categories. For the public, there should be more efforts to attract a larger audience and offer them a unique and engaging weekend experience.
What’s your favorite tattoo convention so far? And why?
Definitely World of Ink 2025 in Poznań, Poland. It was incredibly well organized, featured world-class artists, and had top-level contests with amazing prizes.
What advice would you offer to someone considering a career as a tattoo artist?
My advice is to always set goals and dedicate 100% to this craft. Don’t treat it like a hobby, that’s become too common in recent years. Respect the art form and your clients.
Who are the people you admire the most within the tattoo community?
I really admire Polish artists for their color realism, and some Spanish artists for their black and grey realism.
What’s your biggest accomplishment as a tattoo artist?
Creating massive body pieces, like full backs or full legs in 360°, spending countless hours on them. The final result is something truly unique and deeply emotional.
How do you stay at the top of your game?
There’s no real secret, you need to find your own life-work balance. We’re all searching for it, and those who believe will find it.
Do you do other forms of art besides tattooing?
Yes! I love oil painting, customizing shoes, and even tattooing them. Why not?
What are your goals or dreams for the near future?
One of my goals is to travel across Europe with my work, and one of my dreams is to tattoo in a studio in the United States.
Do you have a sponsor? If so, what could you tell us about your sponsors?
Yes, I’m sponsored by a tattoo aftercare product brand called Proper Aftercare.
