About Alex Van Dutch
Hi, I'm Alex Van Dutch, founder of World Tattoo Events.
My connection with tattoo culture began in the late 1980s, when tattooing was still largely underground. I attended my first tattoo convention in Rome in 1994, and received my first tattoo in London in 1996, at a time when the community was small, tight-knit, and driven by a handful of passionate pioneers. Experiencing that era firsthand gave me a deep respect for the artists and organizers who shaped modern tattoo culture.
With a background in technology and digital platforms, I founded World Tattoo Events in 2010 with a simple but ambitious vision: to create a global platform dedicated entirely to tattoo conventions and the artists who define them.
Over the past 16 years, World Tattoo Events has grown into one of the most widely recognized international resources for tattoo conventions, connecting organizers, artists, suppliers, and audiences across continents. The platform now documents and promotes thousands of events worldwide, helping preserve the history of conventions while supporting their continued growth.
Through this work I regularly travel to conventions internationally, often participating as a judge, curator, and industry advocate, while continuing to build relationships across the global tattoo community.
Based in Vietnam, between international travels, I also lead
Dragon City Ink in Da Nang (Vietnam), a studio built on the principles of artistic excellence, professionalism, and delivering the highest possible customer experience.
My mission remains simple: to support serious artists, elevate professional standards, and contribute to the continued evolution of tattooing as a respected global art form.
