  • How would you like to introduce yourself?

I’m Saul, but also known as Goodmorning Tattoo, and I specialize in traditional Japanese style tattooing. My path into tattooing wasn’t very conventional. I left high school early and began working in the fast food industry while still trying to pursue art. I applied to art school but faced rejection, which was difficult at the time. Looking back now, those experiences eventually guided me toward tattooing and helped me find a career that feels meaningful and fulfilling.

  • How would you describe the tattoo scene in Singapore these days?

In Singapore, tattoos were once heavily stigmatized and often associated with gangs or rebellion. Over the years, that perception has slowly changed. Today, tattoos are more widely accepted and increasingly recognized as a form of personal expression and art.

  • How would you define yourself in one word?

Quiet.

  • Where did your fascination for tattoos come from?

Seeing a friend’s tattoo was a turning point for me. It wasn’t just the design itself but the story behind it. That moment sparked something inside me and made me reflect on my own path and what I truly wanted to pursue. It gave me a new perspective and a sense of purpose that I had been searching for.

  • What does tattooing mean to you personally?

Tattooing gives my life meaning and purpose. It allows me to create something lasting while continuing to grow as an artist.

  • At what point in your life did you decide to become a professional tattoo artist?

There was a moment when I left a tattoo shop after spending several years there learning and growing. As I walked away that day, I felt a mix of emotions. That studio had become like a second home to me. It was the place where I developed my craft, built friendships, and grew both personally and professionally. That moment made me realize how important tattooing had become in my life.

  • How did your family react when you started a career in tattooing?

At first, some people around me felt that tattooing wasn’t a serious career. They saw my passion for art and tattoos as more of a hobby. Over time, as they saw my dedication and progress, their perspective slowly changed.

  • Do you usually do guest spots? If yes what’s your experience in doing them?

Yes, I do guest spots from time to time, and they’re always a great experience. Working in different studios allows me to collaborate with new artists and learn different techniques. Every studio has its own energy, which keeps things interesting. I also get to meet clients from different places, which is always inspiring. Traveling and adjusting to new setups can be hectic, but the experience is always worthwhile.

  • As a Tattoo Artist what does your daily working routine look like?

I usually start the day with a meal before heading to the studio. Once I arrive, I prepare my workspace and set everything up before beginning the tattoo session. After the session is finished, I return home and spend time drawing and preparing designs for upcoming projects.

  • What is one surprising aspect of being a tattoo artist?

One surprising aspect is how deeply you connect with people. Many clients share personal stories and emotions connected to their tattoos. That turns the process into something much more meaningful than simply creating artwork.

  • What’s the most challenging aspect of being a tattoo artist in 2026?

There are many new artists entering the industry, which makes it very competitive. Because of that, it’s important to keep improving and pushing yourself creatively.

  • What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a tattoo artist?

Seeing your artwork living on someone’s body is incredibly rewarding. It reminds you that your work becomes part of someone’s life.

  • How would you define your current tattoo style and how did you end up focusing on it?

I consider my work to be rooted in traditional Japanese style tattooing. I focus on creating designs that are strong, durable, and clearly visible from a distance. That boldness and longevity are important qualities within the style.

  • Please walk us through your process when you start a new tattoo for your customers.

I usually begin by asking the client about the elements they want in the design. I also ask for a photo of the body part where the tattoo will be placed so I can understand the space and composition. From there, I begin creating a design that fits both the client’s idea and the flow of the body.

  • How do you stay creatively inspired?

I stay inspired by studying the work of other artists and exploring different art books. Looking at both traditional and contemporary work always gives me new ideas and perspectives.

Preparation usually starts with creating flash designs. I also prepare banners, stickers, and prints to bring with me.

I attend conventions mainly to gain inspiration and motivation.
