For the readers who are not familiar with you, how would you introduce yourself?
I am a tattoo artist from China, and just like you, my colleagues and I are passionate tattoo enthusiasts.
Where did your fascination for tattoos come from?
Since I was a child, I have been deeply drawn to street culture. During my time at art school, I was influenced by some documentaries, which led me to start experimenting with tattoos. Seeing clients genuinely love my work fascinated me.
At what point in your life did you become a professional tattoo artist?
During my time at art school, when I was 16, I started learning about tattoos. A year later, I began my training and became a professional tattoo artist.
Where are you currently based?
In Shanghai, China.
How would you describe the tattoo scene in China these days?
Over the past decade, tattoos have become more common and popular in China. The tattoo industry has evolved into a stable profession closely tied to the art world.
How would you define your current tattoo style, and what led you to focus on it?
I specialize in black and grey single-needle tattoos. I enjoy working on details and have a deep appreciation for classic films, as well as Renaissance sculptures and paintings. This style allows me to accurately express my favorite elements onto the skin.
Please walk us through your process when you start a new tattoo for your customers.
First, I need to understand the client’s ideas. Once we have a thorough discussion, if the tattoo is based on a movie, I will watch it once or twice to better grasp the character’s emotions and personality. No matter the theme, I always do my research first. After that, I complete the design. Once the design is finalized, we can begin the tattooing process.
What’s the most challenging aspect of being a tattoo artist in 2025?
Technology has made designing easier, and AI can now generate tattoo designs. As tattoo artists, we need to surpass AI by putting in more effort and continuously improving our designs.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a tattoo artist?
Completing a large piece and seeing the client genuinely love my work. Also, knowing that my family appreciates my art gives me a great sense of accomplishment.
What’s your experience at tattoo conventions so far?

What’s your primary reason for attending a tattoo convention?
To exchange ideas and share my understanding of tattoos, to gain inspiration from outstanding tattoo works, and to help new tattoo artists improve.
How do you think tattoo conventions could improve for the artists and the public?
I believe conventions should not only focus on tattoos but also integrate cultural experiences. Every tattoo style is connected to a cultural background. Sometimes, it’s not just about tattoos but also about incorporating more cultural elements.
