For the readers who are not familiar with you, how would you introduce yourself?

Hi there, I am Jhony Ramirez, a tattoo artist from Bogota, Colombia, with a beautiful family. I am very passionate about art and painting. I specialize in creating unique and meaningful tattoos that reflect my client’s personalities and stories. “Is it a pleasure to meet you?“

How and when did you start tattooing?

“In 2011, during my job as a delivery person, I had the pleasure of meeting a local tattoo artist named William, also known as “the priest”. It was thanks to him that I discovered the captivating world of tattooing. I vividly recall his daily insistence that I purchase a tattoo machine he no longer uses. His persistence in selling me it made me agree to buy the kit he was selling.

With that kit, I embarked on my journey as a tattoo artist. My first canvas was my wife, and I remember the excitement of creating my inaugural tattoo for her. It was a fairy design that, amusingly, took nine hours just to outline.

I honed my skills, and I began tattooing many of my friends, gradually immersing myself deeper into the tattooing world .

One memorable encounter, hahahahahaha, was with another talented tattoo artist, my good friend Karl, who introduced me to magnum needles. Prior to that, I had been using a 9 RL needle for all my tattoos, “ you can imagine how many hours it took me to do a color piece HAHAHAHAHAHA resulting in lengthy sessions.

Meeting Karl opened my eyes to new techniques and efficiencies in the craft.

My journey further expanded when I crossed paths with exceptional artists like Julian Gonzales and others, who introduced me to the world of tattoo conventions. My first tattoo convention was in Santiago de Chile, Chile.

These gatherings became pivotal in my growth as an artist, exposing me to the best tattooists and providing opportunities to learn, compete, and exchange ideas.

Thanks to these experiences, my perspective broadened, and my evolution as a tattoo artist began in earnest.”

What advice would you offer to someone considering a career as a tattoo artist?

“I always recommend not rushing to become a professional tattoo artist in a short time. The best approach is to paint, draw, and practice extensively, and to refrain from committing to tattooing styles that you have not thoroughly studied before.”

Do you do other forms of art besides tattooing?

“Yes, I am a painter too. I really love drawing with charcoal and painting in acrylic and oil.”
