SINCE 2017

Since the first Tattoo Circus which was held in Rome in 2017, in solidarity to detainees and their families, thousands of people have participated in several Tattoo Circus worldwide. A Tattoo Circus is a DIY-organised festival, focusing on various social injustice and the idea behind this kind of solidarity event is to promote self expression and political engagement: tattoo Circus creates a space where tattoo culture and the fight against social injustice will come together.

Last year in Pontedera (a town placed in Tuscany, between Florence and Pisa) took place the first Vegan Tattoo Circus (the first one in Italy and, as far as we know, in Europe as well). During a Vegan Tattoo Circus several vegan tattoo artists provide their time, experience, creativity and as much ink as possible, in order to support the Animal Liberation struggles and to become a part of it. The principle of the Vegan Tattoo Circus (like other Tattoo Circus) is that nobody earns anything from the event – neither the tattooists, nor the piercers, and other participants will work for their own profit, and it takes place in an noncompetitive, non-commercial and non-elitary atmosphere.

Last weekend we had the second edition of the Vegan Tattoo Circus in Pontedera and it was amazing to meet so many people, (sometimes in their seventies) receiving their first tattoos to raise money for Animal Sanctuary and to raise awareness about Animal oppression. This is of course a special place for my artivism and for Project X and in fact in few ours about sixty people got tattooed with one, ten, 40 or more Xs. Please enjoy some photos of the event and feel free to contact me if you would like to organize a Circus and need more info!

ABOUT PROJECT X

Project “X” has now become a collective artivism project! There are many, many people all over the world that have chosen to get one, four, forty, hundreds, thousands Xs tattoos on their bodies. Alfredo Meschi is an Italian artivist. In less than a year he covered his skin is with forty thousand tattoos (40,000 Xs) that represent the forty thousand Animals, land and sea, massacred every second in the world, just to satisfy our palate. He uses his body art, mainly through artistic performances and photographic projects, to raise awareness about Animal exploitation and environmental destruction.

This is something so beautiful and powerful!

His goal is to reach 2202 “Xs” artivists (the number of land’s animals killed every second). Come on, join us!

About the Author:

I am an italian artivist. My skin is covered by forty thousand tattoos (40,000 Xs) that represent the number of Animals killed worldwide every second. I use my body art, mainly through artistic performances and photographic projects, to raise awareness about Animal exploitation and environmental destruction. Following my “Project X”, there are now hundreds of people with one, ten, thousands Xs tattoos, worldwide, that are doing my same kind of artivism. I would be more than happy to take part in your tattoo conventions, with my “Project X” performances and artistic exhibition!
