This week, we had the chance to speak with an amazing artist from Slovenia, Ina Lutaric, who creates stunning large-scale color tattoos. Discover what makes Ina a standout in the tattoo community, and how her unique approach and passion for the craft make her one to watch.
For the readers who are not familiar with you, can you give us a brief introduction to yourself?
I’m Ina, and I am a tattoo artist from Slovenia. I love to do tattoos that allow me to get creative in many ways. Not only that, but I love trying new things and new approaches to tattooing and design.
How and when did you start tattooing?
I started tattooing professionally around 5 years ago. I did wish to become some kind of artist for as long as I can remember, but I didn’t think I could do this as a profession. Furthermore, I am a self-learner so before I felt competent enough to start to do this as an everyday job a lot of time has passed.
What kind of approach do you have with your customers?
I always work with their ideas and try to find common ground based on my vision of the work. I usually work on their wishes, themes, and stories behind the tattoos. Not only that, but I try to keep a lot of creative freedom, so I can create my vision and interpretations of their tattoos.
What kind of tattoos or projects do you really enjoy doing at conventions?
I only do one project per convention. I usually choose a project with a general theme, but “models” must keep an open mind and allow me to create my vision of their theme. The design will always incorporate a face and a lot of times an animal.
Do you remember the first tattoo convention you worked at?
The first I ever went to was the Rijeka Tattoo Convention (Croatia). I tend to work less at smaller conventions, but this one is the one I will keep the longest. I was so scared of going and the organizers were just so supporting, accepting, and lovely.
What’s the most memorable experience you’ve ever had at a tattoo convention?
Oh, there were a lot, and they are still just piling up. Haha… but I must say, the most memorable will always be Trieste 2023…. I won my first Best of Show award there… I was in complete shock… But that was not the end of the surprises… Right after getting my reward, my boyfriend got on stage and asked me to marry him. It was like a dream come true!
Is there any particular country or tattoo convention to which you fancy going?
I must say Rijeka (Croatia) again and Amsterdam (Netherlands). I’m also really, really happy I’m going to Milano next year! This was one of my dream conventions, so I just can’t wait!
What’s your number one reason to attend a tattoo convention?
I meet new people, amazing artists, and new approaches to tattooing and design! I work well under pressure (under which I always put myself at conventions haha… ) On conventions, I am in a whole nother state of mind… I am in battle mode, hyperfocused, I see and hear nothing around me… And I love that version of my work because it is very different from work in the studio.
How many tattoo conventions do you visit every year?
This year there will be 8. Next year, maybe a little less, but some of them bigger and more important.
What’s the best way to book you for a convention?
Just write me whenever! I always look for new “models” to create something at conventions. But potential models must keep in mind that I always do large pieces.
Do you do any collaboration tattoos?
I would love to do that.
Who are the people you admire the most in this industry?
There are quite a few for different reasons, and the list changes quickly. But my all-time favorites are Natasha Animal, Carolina Caos Avalle and Rich Harris.
Which celebrity person would you really like to tattoo?
Ohhhhh that would be Ronnie Radke and Corey Taylor, but I’m sure that will always just be a dream :D
And what do you think of tattoo seminars?
I love them! I just started visiting them and I think they are really worth it! You learn a lot and get to meet your idols.
Does your family support your profession?
Yes they do! My mother has my first tattoo ever! So she has been supportive from the very start! My soon-to-be husband is the whole reason I ever started tattooing and has been involved so much in my career. I don’t think I could do this without him.
What are your favorite inks?
All times favorite must be Intenze. In the past 2 years, I began to love World Famous Ink as well! I love their skin tones!
