Fiori Lorett Interview

How would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m Fiori Lorett (Lorena Gomes), a Brazilian tattoo artist and painter. I started tattooing at just 15 years old, and from the very beginning, I’ve been deeply passionate about drawing and painting. My work is an ongoing exploration that fuses precise technique with the expressive freedom of painting. Every tattoo is a balance between structure and fluidity, and I love pushing those boundaries.

What inspired your passion for tattooing?
My biggest influence has always been my mom. She’s an artist, and she introduced me to this world long before I ever picked up a tattoo machine. She used to do henna tattoos before becoming a professional tattoo artist, and I would help her on the beaches of Brazil. Watching her create art on skin fascinated me, and I think that’s where my love for tattooing really began.

How did you start tattooing?
Well, my mom told me not to touch the tattoo equipment in the studio, so of course, I had to see for myself! That day, I tattooed myself, and a few days later, my brother. And just like that, my journey began.

You’ve traveled and lived in many places. Where are you based now?
I’ve lived and worked all over Europe, experiencing different cultures and tattoo scenes, but now I’m based in NYC. It’s an incredible place for art, and I’m excited to grow even more here.

How would you describe the tattoo scene these days?
The tattoo industry is thriving, not just in NYC or Brazil, but worldwide. We’re in an era where tattooing is more artistic and specialized than ever before. The level of talent out there is insane, and I love seeing how the industry continues to evolve.

How would you define your tattoo style?
My style is a fusion of everything I love: Art Nouveau, painterly techniques, ornamental flow, tribal influences, and a touch of Eastern aesthetics. I’m constantly exploring ways to bring these elements together into something unique and cohesive.

What kind of tattoo projects do you enjoy the most?
I love creating large-scale pieces — bodysuits, full sleeves, interconnected designs that truly enhance the body’s natural form. When a client trusts me to craft something that feels like a second skin, that’s when I’m at my best.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Nature is my biggest inspiration. I love studying its pure forms and then bending and blending them into my style. I also draw from architecture, traveling, and collecting patterns from different cultures. Every city has something unique to offer if you pay attention. I also work a lot with photography to understand light better; it plays such a crucial role in my designs.

What’s the biggest challenge of being a tattoo artist for you?
Finding balance between work and personal life. Tattooing isn’t just about the hours spent with a client; it’s the design process, the prep work, the conventions, the content creation. There’s so much that happens behind the scenes. Learning when to rest is probably my biggest challenge.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
The connection with my clients. Spending hours together, hearing their stories, understanding their perspectives — it’s such a privilege. It also makes me reflect on myself and grow in ways I never expected. And of course, the fact that I get to paint on skin, my favorite medium, is something I’ll never take for granted.

How do you feel about tattoo conventions?
I absolutely love them. It’s the best place to showcase your work, meet other artists, and immerse yourself in the craft. The networking alone is priceless.

Do you remember your first convention?
Yes! It was in a small town in Italy about 18 years ago. I remember feeling so inspired, surrounded by incredibly talented artists. It was a game-changer for me.

Why do you think conventions are so important?
They’re essential for any tattoo artist’s growth. Before I was even allowed to work at conventions, I would visit them just to see the masters at work, to learn from them. Once I started participating, I realized how much it pushed me to improve both in technique and in how I deliver an experience to my clients.

What’s your favorite tattoo convention so far?
Gods of Ink. I never got to attend the original London convention, but I’ve been part of GOI since the first edition. The quality of work there is next level, and being surrounded by such amazing artists is always an honor.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a tattoo artist?
Draw. Paint. And most importantly, connect with whom you truly are. Finding your own style isn’t about copying trends, it’s about introspection. When you tap into your roots, your art will naturally reflect your voice, and that’s the most powerful thing you can offer.

Which artists do you admire the most?
There are so many, but here are just a few: Filouino, Lordlips, Danielsbauti, Lorenamorato, Krish Tattoo, Hanna Flowers, Deanna James, Chris Prim, Glendalebully, Justin Hartman, Joao Bosco, Filip Leu, Shige, Lelo Tattoo, Denis Vazios, Lukas Adams, Fibs, Theresa Sharp, James Tex, Squire Straham, Antony Flemming… and so many more!

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment as a tattoo artist?
Honestly, just being here, doing what I love. My journey from starting in Brazil as a kid, traveling alone through Europe, facing challenges as a woman in this industry, and staying true to my craft is something I’m proud of. The fact that I still have the same passion for tattooing after all these years is my greatest achievement.

You’re also a painter. How did that come about?
Funny enough, tattooing led me to painting. When I lived in Madrid, I started studying oils and completely fell in love with the process. That opened the door to other mediums, like liquid acrylics, which are more chaotic but fascinating. Painting teaches me to focus on the process rather than just the final result, and that mindset has helped my tattooing as well.

What are your goals for the near future?
To keep creating work I love, collaborating with amazing clients, and surrounding myself with artists that feel like home. I’m also working on a book that should be out this year, an online seminar, and of course, more conventions and travel ahead!

What would you say to close this interview?
I hope this interview gave you a glimpse into who I am and what drives me as an artist. Thank you for reading, and I appreciate all the support!
