2015 Barcelona Tattoo Convention Photo Coverage
With this year being the 18th Barcelona Tattoo Expo it was a huge honor to be booked as the official photographer of this prestige event. After just covering the London Tattoo Convention the week before, I was going into this event nervous and excited at the same time. Arriving in the city I had to double check I wasn’t still back in Ireland with it wet, cold and windy.
I got to attend the press conference the day before the event and all nerves were put to ease when I met the BCN Press Agent Gessica along with Mik, Laura and Mao at the Mao & Cathy Tattoo Studio. There was real feeling of a family spirit among everyone and I was made to feel extremely welcome by everyone.
A familiar tradition among European shows is everyone getting together the night before the event and BCN was no different, a nice way to break in the weekend. I also got to spend some time getting too know Tattoo Artist Joe Capobianco and Mao himself. Mao and Cathy the oldest and most well-known tattoo shop in Spain whose reputation is built on professionalism and experience.
The 18th Barcelona was an extravaganza of the tattoo culture, urban culture, motorbikes, cars and live performances throughout the whole weekend that reflected the diverse culture of the city. Mao himself put it perfectly that people attend the event just to watch the performances alone, this is an event with something for everyone getting your money worth for the day or weekend.
With a high calibre of artists holding up to 200 Barcelona simplicity in only crowning a 1st, 2nd and 3rd “Best of Day” categories for the tattoo awards on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday followed by an Overall Best of Show made for a straight forward tattoo contest.
Working alongside Gessica the Press Agent it became a great partnership in providing photo coverage each day for the media surrounding the 18th Expo, the event provided a great wifi coverage, which helps in the workflow of Real Time Coverage throughout the weekend. A must for all tattoo events in my opinion! If I had to describe BCN in one line it would be a magical extravaganza surrounded by a real family spirit that will leave you feeling like you don’t want to leave.
I couldn’t end the 18th Expo without thanking Mik the organizer of the event for getting myself and WTE on board but was left with the one being thanked for all my hard work throughout the weekend.
